I downloaded windows 7 home premium 64bit iso and reinstalled. The system booted up successfully. After downloading networking drivers from dell.com I was able to get online and run windowsupdate. After performing all updates and restaring. I encountered the SAME exact issue. System turns on, you see the loading screen. Then a black screen and cursor only. The system only has 1 memory module of 4gb. I did remove it. Attempt to boot until I heard the beeps when it failed to post. I reinserted the module and booted up. Got the warning about previous boot attempt had no memory, I hit f1 to continue. It still presented me with a black screen and only a cursor. for the heck of it, I decided to hit enter on the keyboard, and type in the users password, it logged me into the system and I was able to see parts of the desktop. the top and bottom half of the screen are still black Pressing the windows key, or windows +r does not do anything. Pressing Ctrl Alt Del brings the black screen and cursor back. soo frustrating.
The 320 Does not support 4 gig modules. It supports 2 modules of 1 gig and with updated bios 1 of 2 gig.
It will not work with 4 gigs of ram Ever. (2Gig Modules work but only 1 at a time.) If you put 2 in its dead.
Windows System restore is not factory restore and the CTRL F11 restore is for Dimensions not Optiplex.
The video on the 320 is the Radeon Xpress 1100 Driver. The newest Driver does not work due to ATI not supporting Radeon Xpress 1100 Video.
The latest driver is Legacy Display Driver for windows vista. No driver for windows 7 is available.
You can download the driver and install them in compatible mode. Here is How to.
