Let me start by mentioning that I am not techy at all, but it seems I'm left without a choice for now as I am struggling to find a computer technician locally. I apologize in advance.
When I attempted to turn on my Studio XPS 435mt, it started beeping and blinking an amber light on the power button. I did not catch the beep pattern and it has not repeated it again since. The fan does not turn on and it now makes no sound. It simply blinks amber and a green light will flash once by my front card slots.
Previously, I had a problem where the computer was on and running the fan loudly but was completely nonfunctional. I would have to hold the power button for it to shut off.
From what I gather, this could potentially be a power supply problem or a motherboard issue. Does the problem I mentioned above point to either of those? Is there anything that I can attempt myself in an effort to troubleshoot? I'm in the process of searching for a good technician, but this is not something I am able to invest a lot of money in.
My main concern is the state of my hard drive and all of my pictures. I would be crushed if I've lost them. Is it possible that they are safe?
Thanks so much!
