Re: Dell Factory Image Restore (Format Recovery)

  • I do not understand what you mean by a manual re-installation. Maybe my description under will answer that.
  • Yes, my computer is capable of booting into windows.

I couldn't take a screenshot so I just took a picture with my phone. After entering the administrator username and password, these are the options
that appeared (see photo). At first I tried to do "System Image Recovery" (the third option), but a message popped up saying:

"Windows cannot find a system image on this computer. Attach the backup hard disk or insert the final DVD from a backup set and click Retry. Alternatively, close this dialog for more options."

I couldn't do anything so I cancelled, went back to the System Recovery Options, and tried the last option, "Dell DataSafe Local Backup". Then, there were two options, one saying: "Restore computer and preserve my new or changed files (recommended)" and the other option saying: "Select other System Backup and more options".

I chose the second one and two more options appeared. One read: "Backup files and folders" and the other said: "Restore my Computer". I chose the second option.

This took me to a screen where I was supposed to choose from a list of Full System Backups. I only had one choice to choose from and it was called "Factory Image". I chose it and then followed the onscreen instructions.

I was wondering if I did the right thing because as you know, I am trying to perform a format recovery and make my computer just like the way I purchased it.

(Also, if nothing works, I'd like to buy a format recovery disk. How can I get this?)
