Dell Laptop Starts, but Monitor Doesn't Turn on

0

Hello,

I have an older Dell Laptop (studio 1558) and the other day when I was using it, the monitor picture filled with 'static' and then the monitor went completely black.  Now when I turn it on it sounds like the computer starts up fine but the monitor is black.

So get an external monitor, easily solution, right? -- wrong.  Unfortunately when I hooked my laptop up to a separate monitor, the monitor (which works fine) did not display any images.

Again I have had this laptop for a few years.  I do notice that you have to be 'easy' opening and shutting the laptop.  This has been the case for a few years though, so I am not sure if something finally gave...

I'm not the most computer savvy so sorry if I wasn't more detailed.. any ideas what's wrong or how I can fix this?  I'd rather not bring it somewhere to get fixed.

At a loss on what's wrong with family member's Inspiron 570.

A family member asked me if I would look at their Inspiron 570 and my conclusion was something on the motherboard must of went bad because the PC was booting up but simply not detecting the display. I also tried using the display from my own computer and it also didn't detect it.

So, I bought a brand new motherboard and installed it and hooked everything back up and then powered it up and... display lights up and windows boots up and says it needs to repair itself because it detected a hardware change. Which makes sense, new motherboard. I leave it at that screen and come back and the display is suddenly off.

I press the power button on the tower and nothing happens. The computer acts as if it's getting zero power. No lights, no fans spinning up, nothing happens. I buy a brand new power supply and hook that up and the exact same thing happens. Nothing lights up. Nothing comes on.

I'm pretty confident in my abilities as I've built multiple custom gaming PC's but it's always possible I did something wrong. Does anyone have any idea what could be going on so I have somewhere to start from because as the subject says I'm at a complete loss as to what to try now.

Slow restart 8700 Windows 10

I had to reinstall Windows 10 a month or so ago with Dell Support help.  Since then, the previous very speedy restart (10 seconds or so) booting off the 256 GB SSD has deteriorated to 90 seconds.  I looked at information here and from Google searches and looked at the Event Viewer but there was no consistent application or driver that was taking a long time,  I did uninstall Dell Concierge since it came up a couple of times as taking extra time but that did not improve things. There were posts about a Dell Bluetooth driver problem but my system has an Intel card and reinstalling the driver did not help.  Shutdown is speedy enough and the system boots almost instantly from Shutdown since I understand with fast boot in place it is working off a saved cache instead of loading drivers and applications.

Hello.  I have many pictures is my photo gallery including scans, img and others.  Each item is assigned a number for example scan0001 and img001.  Lately pictures have been showing up in my photo gallery and are assigned numbers that start with B000...for example scan0001 is assigned a number such as B0001234.  Both the scan picture and the B000  picture remain in the photo gallery.  I have an external hard drive and thought that the B000 were backup numbers.  I have looked on google and asked the question about the B000 and have had no luck.  Can someone help.  Thank you.

Hello everyone, I'm new here and I really need your help :)

I have a Dell Optiplex 755 Desktop and incredible as it seems that I didn't know the desktop had no graphic card (video card?) lol x)

The desktop has been offered at Christmas, I wonder if you could indicate an ideal video card for my desktop which is not too expensive,

I'm using Windows 7 Pro, I don't know much about computers components but I found this graphic card what do you think? Will work or nah? graphics-cards.specout.com/.../ASUS-GeForce-210-Silent

I really need your help guys.

Dell OptiPlex 9020 SFF Won't start, Power LED on, CPU Fan quietly revving - FIXED by Updating BIOS :-)

Dell OptiPlex 9020 SFF

system won't show screen, power led is white, cpu fan revs, but not loudly.

Dell Support were friendly & helpful but didn't get me anywhere, so it's DIY :-).

Power supply test (button on PSU) runs OK when turned off and PSU led is green, so not a power supply problem.

Shutdown and remove power for 1min - no change.

Disconnect HDD, AMD graphics card & DVD & one (of 2) memory module- no change.

Remove both DIMM, pwr on - system beeps - good motherboard is alive :-)

Disconnect power, remove last Memory DIMM & swap for the other one & system boots into BIOS Menu (as there's no disks to boot from)

Pwr down, connect HDD - Pwr up -no screen, no boot. (After this you're back to a dead PC agian)

Long story short - ONLY if you change the DIMM & leave ONE DIMM by itself THEN will system start, but not if any disks are connected. (if you only have one DIMM use Slot2 which works)

The Fix.

Download Dell & Create Boot Disk - here (you can copy the URL, just delete the spaces)

In BIOS Menu, Disable SecureBoot, Change BIOS BOOT to Legacy

Run BIOS update from USB

Boot from usb & type BIOS package name o9020a16.exe, enter & you'll be updated to latest version

DON'T POWER OFF - the updater will restart by itself!

In BIOS Menu, Change Boot to UEFI, enable SecureBoot (if you don't you can have startup problems)

Connect HDD & other components & you should be good to go!

Dell Inspiron 518 00 starts to turn on and hangs

My computer was running fine. I booted down to plug in a new power strip. When I booted back up, it turns on and hangs on the Dell screen with the progress bar just past the 1/3 point. I've tried this several times, exactly the same result.

I don't see a way to post a screenshot (picture taken by my tablet) or I would.

[Solved] T5500 Workstation continuous beep with high CPU usage.

I have a T5500, and anytime I stress the CPUs the system starts a continuous, constant beep noise.

The system still appears to run normally and the CPU temps are also under control, just the annoying sound.

I do not see a continuous sound anywhere in the manual so I don't know what this means.

This is an old machine and out of warranty so if I cannot find the problem, can I just turn off or disconnect the speaker making the noise?

Thanks.

XPS One 2720 slow startup after Win10 upgrade

Before, with Windows 8 and 8.1, my 2720 would only take about 30 seconds to do a complete boot-up. After Windows 10 upgrade, It take about 10-15 MINUTES to get pass the Dell splash screen. I've checked for the latest drivers, which I have. ran Malware checks and bug checks; all clean. I'm guessing there is a driver issue with one of the components looking for something, but Device Manager shows no problem. Anyone have any ideas?

Looking for close hardware matches to Optiplex GX270 & 755 units

I'm trying to help a company who has standardized their shop to use both the Optiplex GX270 and 755.  I'm hoping to find other models that are close enough (or even exact hardware matches) that they can use the hard drive image from a 270 or 755 interchangeably with it.  For example, I seem to remember than another Optiplex (maybe the 170L) is an exact match to the GX270.  Does anyone know if that's correct?  Or do you have a memory of a 260 or 280 (or anything else) being able to run a 270's hard drive?  Same question on the 755 - are either the 745 or 760 (or maybe another non-similar model number like a 330) a close enough hardware match that using an image from a 755 is possible?

Thanks in advance for any help.

GX280 to GX270 transplant

I have depended on various configurations of the GX270 for years and consider it a work horse of a computer.  I have several of these boxes in various stages of bootability.

Recently a friend who was still using a GX280 for some side applications had a motherboard failure. The HDD from the failed GX280 seems to be fine and he has some irreplaceable apps on the system.

I know these boxes were very similar so in my ignorance i tried swapping his system drive into one of my spare boxes, without success.

So the question is, is it at all feasible with some tinkering to get a GX280 system HDD to boot a GX270?   If so where do  I start?

TIA for any info or ideas.

Wifi problems with Windows 10

I have a new Dell Inspiron 3650 i5 preloaded with Windows 10 (which I like).

However, following a recent update the Wifi keeps fading, disappearing all together and when the Desktop is turned on it regularly cannot connect at all and cannot find any Wifi networks to connect to at all. If I leave it running it eventually connects, but still fades in  and out making internet surfing erratic and email downloads lock out frequently. I know its not the Wifi router because I have my trusty old Dell Inspiron laptop with Windows 7 sitting on the desk next to the Desktop and its Wifi connection is absolutely fine and sound. I have tried unticking the power saver option as mentioned on some Windows 10 forums but it makes no difference. I also notice that my Google link no longer works (moved away from Edge as I couldn't stand the adverts / news feed. Can someone help me as W10 came with the system so Dell must be aware of the issue?

Orange light on XPS 8500

I have a 2012 XPS 8500 and when I shut it down, after a couple of seconds of stopping, the power button turns to an orange light.  Sometimes when I go to restart the PC it is slow to respond or I have to press the button a couple of times.  The PC seems to run OK but a couple of times it did shut off suddenly.

I ran the diagnostics but every time it starts to go through the various tests the PC switches off immediately.  Please can someone tell me what the orange light is telling me and what I need to do.  The PC is no longer under warranty.

Hi,

XPS 18 1810
OS Win 10 home

Previously, the XPS was blinking white color with or without power. I disconnected the battery and the BIOS battery and reconnected them again. That solved it.

I worked on it for 1 day,  shut it down and disconnected it from the power. The next day the XPS 18 will not boot and no signal what so ever, with or without power attached. No stand light indicator, no sound bleep or whatever, no van. Dead.

 no warranty

Any help is appreciated.

kind regards,

Geert

"When plugged in the light is orange"

AC adapter is connected and battery is charging
Solid amber color = Computer is ON
Breathing amber color (slow blinking) = Sleep mode
Fast blinking amber color = Low battery
Solid amber color = Computer is OFF

"when unplugged the light is white"

Battery with no AC adapter connected
Solid white color = Computer is ON
Breathing white color (slow blinking) = Sleep mode
Fast blinking amber color = Low battery
Light is off = Computer is OFF

Both mean the computer is on? So bad integrated Intel HD video.

I turn the computer on and the led flashes and turns blue and quickly turns off. I have tried other outlets around my house and as well as other houses and they all give me the same result. The PC tries to boot for about 3 seconds and then turns off right away in case if that helps specify something

Power Supply Fan constantly running -- PLEASE HELP!

0

Hi there!

I just reverted back to Windows 7 after Windows 10 was sneakily loaded onto my system as a "recommended update" (not cool, BTW, Microsoft). I have an older system, and I know after scanning my Dell on the Drivers site, it was not recommended to keep Windows 10.

Well, now my power fan constantly runs. I've disabled/uninstalled/removed EVERYTHING I can find that's not essential to the system. My CPU usage is a low 4% or LESS at all times, yet the fan runs like mad. It's running right now ... and I'm only using Firefox. <sigh>

Any and all advice would be helpful. Note: I'm not a HUGELY computer-literate person. I know how to disconnect the wires, open the back, blow out all the dust. That's about it. Removing components is not an option. I'm just wondering if there's any "hidden" *** that might have been tinkered with due to the (imo, ILLEGAL) installation of Windows 10 and the subsequent downgrading to Windows 7 (which was great!).

Also, I run/ran some pretty CPU-heavy programs (WoW, Guild Wars 2, Elder Scrolls), and the fan NEVER ran the way it does now. I feel like that's saying something.

Many thanks!

MissSea :)
