The hard drive in my Dimension 8400 has died with the exception of the utility partition. I bought a new SATA drive that shows up in setup, passes all tests in hard drive diagnostics. When I try to install windows, it says there is no drive installed, even though setup and all the diagnostics say otherwise. What else can I do?
It says there is no drive because you must install in ata Mode.
You can't boot an 8400 in AHCI mode.
You Must put the sata mode operation into Raid Autodetect ATA mode.
UNDER CMOS SETUP Change the
Drive Controller Configures the serial ATA controller's operating mode.
Identifies and defines the SATA controller settings for RAID.
You can set the SATA controller to RAID Autodetect/AHCI,
RAID Autodetect/ATA,
or RAID On
