before i give you the problem i must state that i am not versed in p.c.jargon when it comes to fixing things
Basically for me to get my monitor to start up i have to pull out the power cable from the back of the monitor line it back up again with internal socket and simualtaneously insert the power cable and hit the start button on the tower,only problem is that sometimes i have to do this up to a dozen times.
I have recently been on a microsoft forum to see if they can help but nothing seems to help although somethings they asked me to was a bit too technical for me
my gut feel ing is that it is something to do with the connection in the monitor but most of the forum members have been leaning towards a graphic card issue

check power cable-i bought a new one no joy
make a bootable xp recovery console c.d-????????????
bios screen when i get my monitor on,-no it doesnt show,but earlier today it flashed up and i went to start up in safe mode and started a systems restore but it didnt finish as i had a black screen and no light on so i dont know if my systems restore was complete or not
misinfo32-,done that and saved as a file
change resolution to something like 1074 x 768-?????????
change the output slot for the graphic card-have done that still the same problem,i have also replaced the graphic card with one from a dell dimension 5150
still the same problem
run a checkdisk-??????????????
i have found two discs that came with the pc
1)DELLtm e173fp lcd monitor,user documentation ,contents .html user documentation,drivers (INF,ICM and CAT files)
2)DRIVERS AND UTILITIES,CONTENTS=DRIVERS/DIAGNOSTICS AND UTILITIES/ONLINE DOCUMENTATION/MODEM ON HOLD(i have put this one through pc
if anyone can help it would be great because im at the end of my tether with this
