Ron - Here's an explanation of what happened and why i came to the conclusion I did.
- The system in question is a 27" XPS One Touch.
- It arrived with BIOS revision A06.
- Bios A08 showed up in the Dell Support Center Windows app as a "critical update". I attempted multiple times to install it Each time I attempted to install, the install appeared to complete successfully but, upon reboot, I was still on A06 (the A08 critical update was still available, inspecting the BIOS revision in the BIOS UI confirmed still at A06).
- I started this thread. No real help from anyone regarding why the BIOS updates weren't working.
- Someone else posted to the thread that they were having problems with a BIOS update on a non-touch 27" XPS One. I knew about the RAID/SATA issue and explained the issue.
- Up to this point, I'm still on A06 and can't get A08 to install. Then I notice that on the driver support page for my system there are radio buttons that toggle between "Filtered driver results for your service tag OR All related drivers for your product."
- The A08 BIOS upgrade only shows up when results are NOT filtered. This leads me to conclude (rightly or wrongly) that the reason the A08 upgrade isn't installing is that it actually isn't applicable to my system.
- The A09 upgrade claims to "require" A08 (which I think doesn't apply my system). It also doesn't show up when I filter for just my product on the support page.
You probably know much more than I do about how filtering of results on the driver support pages works. I've guessed that at what's causing A08 to not install but it's really a just a guess. Do think I'm right here?
If A08 / A09 actually should apply to me and aren't for some other reason (e.g., some issue causing my BIOS to not be writable), then I would really like to understand that.
Thanks!
