I got the same issue with two new XPS 8500:
- I went through the initial set up with the first XPS8500 and couldn't boot up after first restart.
- Dell sent me the Windows 8 DVD to re-install the OS but we couldn't install it.
- I got the same issue with the second XPS 8500.
- Tech support had me change the following: Boot Mode - Legacy, Secure Boot - Disabled, SATA Mode - AHCI and re-install Window 8.
- Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) couldn't start in this mode.
- Tech support had me change the SATA Mode - RAID and re-install Windows 8 again.
- Intel RST can start but can't use SSD in cache.
- Tech support told me that in order to use Intel RST: Boot Mode - UEFI, Secure Boot - Enabled, SATA Mode - RAID.
- We can't install Windows 8 with these settings.
Dell should figure out how to fix this issue.
