I purchased a Dell XPS8500 refurbished from the Dell Outlet in September. 8GB RAM 1TB HD (no solid state drive) ATI HD7570 video card, Realtek integrated sound Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OS Service Tag 6DXN7V1. In an attempt to prepare for an upgrade to Windows 8, I ran the upgrade assistant. It said my computer was not compatible with secure boot. After some research, I found I was running BIOS A05 and needed to upgrade to A09. Ran the assistant again, and was told not compatible. After more research, found out BIOS was running in Legacy mode not UEFI mode. When I go into BIOS setup and toggle, to UEIF mode, my hard drive (where windows boots from) and DVD drive disappear from the list of bootable drives. When I toggle back to Legacy they reappear. I tried to boot from UEFI, but get a message "Start PXE over IPv4".
Is there a way to get BIOS to recognise my bootable drive?
