You are mixing and matching.
Updating the bios won't hurt there are over 20 versions.
First you say Vista now you say XP.
Ata Mode vs AHCI mode is a different issue.
SSD server drives DIE VERY VERY SOON.
Not wanting to hear that XP and Vista Do not support SSD's without tweaks is another issue but it is not supported by Dell. This is not the 3rd party SSD server drive support forum.
The IDE Driver in all versions of windows is the DEFAULT Driver that comes with windows.
The AHCI Driver on the other hand is an F6 install driver.
There is also a "Fix" for windows 7 to enable the Driver and prevent the
STOP 0x0000007B INACCESSABLE_BOOT_DEVICE

The updates includes an AMT firmware and resolves security issues.
