@charles, suggest Dell replace the card reader and the mother board for a more permanent fix.  Unplugging and draining power is a temporary fix - its a super option for anyone whose warranty has expired. If you have a warranty remaining, insist on parts replacement - not just the card reader, but mother board too.  Both have to be replaced at same time or the problem will reoccur.    I can't tell you how many times they replaced the card reader alone.  They have to replace both parts at same time.  Tomorrow I will research to find out exactly what they did to resolve the problem once and for all. Will update my post then.
