Hello all,
You've been quite helpful with some of the issues I've been having with my 4 year old Dell XPS 8100 running windows 7 -- I thank you, and I would appreciate further guidance.
About a month ago, the OS was not recognizing the Blu-Ray Drive, so I executed a 'clean' boot and re-installed Windows 7. I noticed the fan was pretty loud after boot, and deduced it was probably the result of an out-dated BIOS. I downloaded the new BIOS and updated all the drives. At least, cosmetically.
After installing the updated BIOS the computer seemingly ran frictionless and I was quite content. However, 7 days after, while I turned on the CPU, my monitor read it "could not find the OS". I ran a series of diagnostics outside of Windows and found no errors. I decided to boot the system to an earlier version of it. The loud fan came back, but it seems like the BIOS is up-to-date.
Within Windows, I ran another set of diagnostics and came up with this:
- "Avg disk queue length is 6. The disk may be at it's maximum transfer capacity due to throughput and disk seeks"
-CPU status: Idle , Details: LOW CPU LOAD,
"Missing events in Event log, Investigate why 51% (27,479) events were lost during data collection"
I would appreciate your help as to what other things I should be looking for, as I further troubleshoot my computer. Do you believe this could be a motherboard failure? I'd be thankful to hear your input.
