Hi everyone,
My Dimension E520 isn't starting up properly. When I turn it on I can hear drives spinning and the fan starts, lights at the front do their flashing thing but the monitor does not respond.
The optical can open and close no problem and when I disconnect the white monitor cable my monitor shows the floating box with colours and some other information and the monitor power light is green. When I plug the cable back in to the tower the dialog box on the monitor goes away, but it goes back in to standby mode (power light is amber)
The keyboard numlock light will go on, but I can't turn it off and the caps lock button doesn't do anything either.
On the advice of a Dell CSA I disconnected the video card and tried to connect the monitor using the blue cable direct into the motherboard but when I did that the floating dialog box remained on the monitor (same issue when I reconnected the video card and used the blue cable instead of white). Also, on his advice I took out all the RAM (4 x 1GB) and the computer beeped at me. Then I tried putting one stick of memory in the four different slots but nothing changed with the monitor. I also disconnected both hard drives but nothing happened to the monitor, the CSA said I should get a blue screen.
I'm not sure what else I can do short of bringing it to a local repair shop.
Any ideas/thoughts at all would be appreciated.
Thanks.
