hi i just bought a refurbished dell 755, does not have cd rom in xp, i searched all over including this one and found no help, until I found a solution on a Chinese website ( my mother lanauge does help sometimes), basically it says you press f2 to go in to the bios settings and you need to light up number lock, caps lock and the scroll lock ( it says you must use a dell keyboard but i tested on my logitech usb one perfectly) then once you go in there, press alt e then alt f then alt b. i was prompted with a warning that sata setting changed i did not care about that, then you exit and save and reboot your cd rom will be recognised! what i found also was i cannot boot in to xp due to the sata setting i got the blue error page. what i did was i changed the sata setting back to ATA and it fixed everything. Oh, you also want to check and change boot sequence, make sure your hd is the 1. cheers
