Hi Les,
The power button light is a bi-color light that indicates the Dell™ XPS One™ A2420 power state as indicated below:
Power State | Power Light |
S0 - Normal operating state (On) | Blue |
S1 - Light Sleep | |
S3 - Sleep/Standby | Blinking Blue |
S4 - Hibernate / Suspend to Disk | Off |
S5 - Off | |
Boot Failure | Amber |
The top four media control buttons to the right of the display also act as diagnostic lights, to help you troubleshoot problems. When the computer starts normally, the lights flash. After the computer starts, all four lights display solid blue.
If the computer malfunctions, the media control buttons that light up identify the problem. The patterns or codes on the lights change as the boot process completes. If the POST portion of system boot completes successfully, all four lights display blue. If the computer malfunctions during the POST process, the pattern displayed may help identify where in the process the computer halted.
System Beep Codes
The Dell™ XPS One™ A2420 can emit a series of beeps during start-up if the display cannot show errors or problems. These series of beeps, called beep codes, identify various problems.
- 3 means 3-3-3-3… That is 3 beeps and 3 beeps and …: Endless looping until user presses the power button to shut down the system.
- The delay between each beep is 300ms, The delay between each set of beeps is 3 sec, The beep sound last 300ms.
- After each beep and each set of beeps, the BIOS should detect if the user presses the power button, if so, BIOS will jump out from looping and execute the normal shutdown process and power system
We need to diagnose and determine the exact reason of the problem which could be due to an internal component failure or even an external device conflicting with the system.
Please let me know the status of the diagnostic lights and number of beeps you hear so that I am able to assist you better.
Thanks and regards,
Babita S
