From your description, it appears that you are facing issues with audio drivers on the system.
If you are you using the same system (Inspiron 535S), as being used by the original poster on the thread, you may re-installing the audio driver. You may click on Start -> Control Panel -> Uninstall a Program or Program and Features -> Uninstall the audio driver and restart the system. Re-install the driver from Here.
If the issue persists, you may try installing the same driver in compatibility mode, that may work.
- Download the drivers for your computer from link above.
- Right Click the driver installation file and select Properties -- > Compatibility Tab.
- Select Windows Vista from the list in the following image.

- Click Apply -- > OK.
- Right Click the file and select the 'Run As Administrator' option to install.
If you are using a different system, please share the system model. Will take it further from there.
