What does PCIe 3.0 x16 (x16 or dual x8) mean and what does PCIe 2.0 x16 (x4 mode) mean? I know that PCIe 3.0 means Peripheral Component Interconnect generation 3 and PCIe 2.0 means generation 2. I also understand that x16 is the longest PCI slot, but what do (x16 or dual x8) and (x4 mode) mean? Do they mean that you can put 2 PCIe x8 cards in one slot or 4 PCIe x4 cards in one slot? How do you do that? Thanks for helping me understand this.
