AGP123The XPS is down so I am unable to use CPU-Z. I take it that it scans your computer to find out all of the info. I know it is the very basic level of the Dell Dimension XPS 410, and will be receiving the computer in about a week to see what can be done with it. I wanted to go ahead and upgrade the processor at the same time that I put the new motherbaord in, if it does in fact need a new motherboard. Just an unfortunate situation where it sounds like the previous owner made the ordeal quite a bit worse.

The XPS 410 was sold with a choice of processor [either the Intel Pentium 4, Pentium D and the Core 2 Duo] not just one default processor.
If you don't have the 410, then wait until you receive it and post back with the sSpec number that's etched on top of the processor.
Personally, if the motherboard needs replacing, I would install the default processor on the new motherboard and wait until I know the system is running without any issues, before upgrading the processor.
You do know, that the XPS 410 is a BTX system and the motherboard and heatsink, are Dell proprietary units.
