I am trying to uninstall the Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Control Driver (v.1.0.4.220 as supplied by Dell) from Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit. The uninstall routine appears to complete OK when run from the Control Panel and then prompts for a restart. However after the restart Windows will BSOD during the boot process with the following STOP error:
STOP: 0x0000007B (0xFFFFF880009A97E8,0xFFFFFFFFC0000034,0x0000000000000000,0x0000000000000000)
The only way I have managed to recover from this is a System Restore which rolls back to a point when the driver is once again installed.
I need to uninstall this driver in order to perform an in-place upgrade to Windows 8. Windows setup reports that this driver is incompatible with Windows 8 and so will not install unless this driver is removed.
