Re: Inspiron 2305 Suddenly Stops Working, Will Not Boot

Dell Inspiron One 2305 UPDATE: I have experienced most of the issues listed in the many threads concerning this product. FINALLY I have my machine working. It's been doing great for 2 weeks so I'm somewhat hopeful. I bought a NEW Dell motherboard from a dealer in Malaysia on EBay (Plainmetal) whom I recommend. After reinstalling I still had a video issue..squiggly lines on display and froze during the boot cycle. Reset memory several times to no avail. Last effort was to replace the (previously replaced) SATA cable from HDD to motherboard with a DELL BLUE SATA cable out of a Dell OPTIPLEX I had in my shop and BINGO...works great. I still think this design has a heat issue. I'm running mine without the back cover and without the metal shroud that covers the left side of the motherboard and it's way cool. The design is such that with the shield in place  the heat from the processor and integrated video chip would be collected/directed to the heat sink/cooling fan for outflow. I don't have any temperature tests to back this theory up but I noted with the shield and back cover in place it's quite hot. My personal opinion but it works for me. Lastly, I would not recommend this product line to anyone, based on the history of issues in this and multiple other forums. If mine crashes again, I'll part it out. I have around 10 Dell products (some 10 years or older with no issues) so I am a Dell guy. Formerly worked as a Dell field tech so I have some experience working on their products. Having said that, clearly the poor support for the home user line is not helping the company. Hopefully, with Michael Dell getting back into running the company things will improve. Comments and feedback appreciated!
