The XPS 8500 system either come with a 32 GB mSATA SSD or an 256GB mSATA SSD. So you would be able to upgrade to 256 GB mSATA SSD.
The mSATA SSD should be fitted in the mSATA slot check the picture below:

With a small philips-head screwdriver you can remove the two screws that secure the mSATA SSD module to the system board to replace it with another mSATA SSD.
