I'm replacing my aging Dell Dimension 4550 with a new XPS 8500 Special Edition, and want to make sure I understand how the new hardware works on shutdown.
With my older Dell I developed the habit of shutting down the OS and waiting for the computer to shut off before turning off the surge suppressor when the computer is not in use.
With my new Dell I noticed that after I shut down the Windows 8 OS, it takes awhile before the power button light extinguishes. Even after the computer is shut down, the green light on the power supply remains lit. After I shut off the surge suppressor, it takes awhile before the power supply light extinguishes. Bottom line is that I don't know if its necessary or not to shut off the power source (surge suppressor) or not.
Can someone explain what I am observing and advise me on the proper power shutdown procedures?
