DOA Precision -- two times to Support Depot, still not fixed

Really frustrating...my very expensive (and still unpaid for) laptop just...died. Clearly a hardware failure, HD works fine in another computer, and another working HD does not work in this laptop. No bootable drive.

Motherboard, video card and HDD cables replaced during two trips to sunny Texas. Now, 43 days after the initial crash and a non-working, $5000 computer, am told that it will be 48 hours before they DECIDE whether they will ship me a replacement laptop, or whether I have to send it in a THIRD time for repairs. Either option will take another two weeks.

Really? There are lemon laws -- do I need to sue? No way to escalate above Dilbert in India. Yes, that's really his name.

Can't use all 5 PCE-E slots on Precision T7500

We have 5 old Precision T7500 Workstations that has been replaced. I don't want to write them off as they are still very usable. Somne of the systems we would like to make a rendering farm with 5 GPUs per system.

As it has 5 PCI-e Slots it should work. But when I install more than 3 GPUs the systems does not want to boot in to windows and Just resets. I have updated the bios to A16 and we have tried to reinstall windows. 7 and 10 but the setup does not even want to boot pas the splash screen when \4 cards are installed.

I don't see why it will not work. Manual does not say anything and it has 5 PCI-E slots.

3 Cards work fine but anything more does not work

Is a limit to which PCI-E slots can be used?

Can this CPU cooler be installed on Dell Optiplex 745?

Hi.

I recently bought a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 to upgrade my dell optiplex 745 MT.

Temperatures averages are a little bit higher than 66°C and on Intel website it's written that Tcase temperature shouldn't exceed 60°C.

Do anyone knows if this fan (https://www.arctic.ac/eu_en/freezer-13-limited-edition-163.html) can be installed on Dell Optiplex 745?

Will it lock into the Motherboard?

Optiplex 780 compatibility

Ok so I am trying to upgrade the ram in my optiplex 780. I am trying to upgrade it to 4gb so I can run a program for my school classwork. I know if it's 32-bit I can only have 4gb readable. The ram stick in it is a 2gb pc3-10700 667Mhz part number NT2GC64B8HC0NF-CG. Well I tried taking a ram stick out of my optiplex 3020. It's a 4gb pc3-12800 800Mhz part number HMT451U6BFR8C-PB.

My question why do I only get beeps when after it's inserted? Why would it not be compatible if it's out of another dell optiplex? I read somewhere that it is possibly too slow for it to read it.

Dell XPS 8900 Desktop - upgrade wireless card - which 5GHz cards are compatible?

I acquired a Dell XPS 8900 Special Edition Desktop

(i7-6700; 16Gb ram; Win10; Gtx960; Dell Wireless 802.11 b/g/n).

I want to upgrade the wireless card to enable a 5GHz-AC connection to my ASUS RT AC87U router.

It looks like usb wireless adapters suffer from disconnection and break downs along the way (got this from reading reviews on amazon)

Can anyone recommend a few new AC wireless cards compatible with this desktop? (head about the Intel 7260 but I dont know if there are newer ones).

Thanks in advance!

"No boot device available" after cold restart on T3600

Hi,

Have a Dell Precision T3600 with a 300 GB SAS drive connected to a LSI Disk controller.

When I do a cold restart, I am getting the message "no boot device available, press any key to reboot" - by pressing "any key" the system is rebooting (warm) and Win7 is booting.

If I select "restart" instead of "shutdown", system is also booting normally, seems the problem only comes when I do a cold reboot.

I tried to replace the disk controller, but no change. Then I put in an old HDD that was used on this system earlier -  that seemed to work. As a result I got a new 300 GB SAS drive and reloaded SW. Problem was solved for a few weeks, but then suddenly reappearing...

Any suggestion?

Since it works on a warm reboot I dont really think something is wrong with the HDD, it seems to be more like a timing issue...that the disk is to slow or somehow not ready when it is supposed to be.Has anyone experienced anything similar?

regards

E

Bringing life to Opti 760 DT

Hello,

I have purchased two older Dell Opti's in hopes of bringing them alive to be a somewhat good gamming PC for my young boy. The one I currently have a question about is the 760 DT. Not the Mini-Tower. The small form factor.

My question here is what PSU will fit into this small frame? It is currently using a very low watt PSU. It is a 255W PSU. What PSU's can I upgrade this with? I am not able to find anything. Might be looking in the wrong place. I am also wanting to upgrade the Video card, but don't want to worry about that until I get my power issue resolved.

Thank you for your time.

If you know of some, could you please provide some links so that I can purchase them? Thank you.l

XPS 8900 NVIDIA GT 730 ISSUE

I recently bought my XPS 8900 and it seems that the computer doesn't recognize the nVIDIA GT 730 graphics card that it came with. When I open the Control Panel and try to open the nVIDIA Control Panel under Hardware, an error message always pops up and I can't even open it. So, I tried going to the nVIDIA website and updating my driver manually but that installer failed.  When I looked under Device Manager, the nVIDIA graphics card doesn't even show up. So as of right now, my computer is using Intel HD Graphics and I don't understand why my desktop can't recognize and set the nVIDIA GT 730 as my default graphics card.

Does it sound like I just got a lemon? Is there something I can do before resorting to being put on hold for god knows how long with customer support???

Thank you!!

XPS 8910 added second SATA HD now optical drive no visible

Based on my reading the XPS 8910 manual the SATA ports are as follows:

4 - optical drive, 5 - hard drive, 6 - drive connector, 7 - drive connector

When I first open the machine the optical drive SATA cable was connected to 5 and the hard drive connected to 4. I assumed they knew what they were doing more than I.  I added a second SATA HD using SATA connector 6.  The second drive came up as drive F: and worked fine (first HD is C: and the memory card reader is D:

However, the optical drive (E:) was no longer visible.  When I look at the BIO is seems to recognize both HDs and the optical drive.

Any help appreciated.

Inspiron 2205 won't turn on.

My Inspiron 2205 won't turn on. The power cord light is blue when I plug it into the machine. When I push the power button, the blue light on the power cord turns off, when I release the button, the blue light turns back on. Also, when I push the power button, it doesn't light up (no white, no orange/amber) but the light above the power button blinks (it's a circular white light, with a cylinder icon next to it). I've tried different power outlets and the results are the same. I took off the back casing of the computer and pushed the on button and noticed the fan inside turns a little but then immediately stops. It seems every time I push the on button, a pulse of power goes through the machine but that's it. If I keep the power button pushed in, the blue light on the power cord blinks, as does the white light above the power button. Does anyone know what's going on here? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Alienware Aurora - System Freezing

Dear All - my desktop freezes quite frequently either at the time of system boot or after the system has successfully booted and I have logged into the system (nothing works and Ctrl+Alt+Delete does not do anything) . In both cases I then have to force reboot the system and end up losing my work - extremely annoying.

In some case the system restarts automatically while I am working.

I have run Dell diagnostic available on the support page and it does not throw any errors. I have also run the assessment from BIOS by pressing the F12 key while rebooting. Most of the time that diagnostic also does not throw any error. However on couple of occasions the screen also froze while running the tests.

appreciate any help I can get

Thanks

Unable to tell CPU temp on my Old Dell Tower

$

Hello all,

Recently, I have gotten an old Dell Dimension E520 from my grandma's neighbor who no longer wanted it and bought himself a new PC.

I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate on the computer, cleaned it of dust, and re-applied thermal paste on the CPU, considering the old paste was dried out.

I have used speccy to tell the CPU temp and only the name of my CPU pops up with no temp reading, while my mobo and HDD have a temp reading.

I have tried this on windows xp as well which is what came with the PC when it was made and I've had no such luck still.

How may I fix this so when I know I have to apply more thermal paste? The only time I notice that the CPU is really bad is when the fan gets uncontrollably loud, but that didn't happen with the old paste dried out..

Thanks in advance.

XPS 8910, Power Supply fan not running

$

I bought an XPS 8910 last August.  Recently it has been rebooting on its own from time to time. Thinking it might be an overheating problem I opened it up and noticed the power supply unit fan does not run at all when the computer is on (or off for that matter).  The CPU fan works fine.

QUESTIONS:

1) Am I correct in believing that PSU fan should run at all times that computer is on?

2) If PSU is defective, how do I go about getting Dell to send a replacement (I'm under warranty until August 2017).

Tks!

Dimension 8400 cannot boot Windows 7 SATA drive 1TB from another Dell

$

I pulled a working Windows 7 SATA drive from a Dell Inspiron 570, 1TB in size.

When installed in a Dell 8400, the Windows loading sequence fails.

(No other drives connected)

Bios in the 8400 correctly identifies the drive and diagnostics passed OK.

By this i mean, in the Inspiron, Windows loading I see the spinning wheels, color Screen windows 7 start sequence, then the select user screen.

In the Dimension 8400 I see a black and white lettering, loading windows bar at the bottom of the screen, "Windows is loading files..."

Does this problem look like a Dell Dimension problem, or perhaps a problem with software on the 1TB hard drive.

Now, If I put a PATA drive in the 8400 and reconfigure BIOS, I can boot from a Windows XP drive with no problem.

Thanks for reading.

Optiplex 3030 BSOD on Windows 7 Boot

$

We have several 3030 AIO desktop computers running Windows 7 on our campus.  Any of these machines imaged with Windows Deployment Services will BSOD at boot.  The error is:

stop 0x0000007E (0xFFFFFFFF80000003, 0xFFFFF8800536F02D, 0xFFFFF88003FD8EC8, 0XFFFFF88003FD8720)

We have another server (2012r2 upgrade) that deploys Windows 7 to these AIO desktops without issue, so we know it's not our image.  It would seem the drivers are OK too, since the other server doesn't have the same issue.  That said, we can deploy images to any other Dell computer, desktop or laptop, without BSOD and Windows 10 works fine.

So far we have tried:

the driver .cab files from 2014, 2015, and the most recent

Server 2012 R2 and 2016 (completely fresh install)

Dell's diagnostic utility (Pre-boot System Assessment)

Resetting BIOS to default

We've hit a dead end and I'm hoping someone can recommend something new to try.

Thanks in advance!

Optiplex 3040MT Wireless card??

$

I have just bought an Optiplex 3040mt. Apparently it was pre packaged and not customizable, which seems to be fine as it has plenty of power for my uses.

What I cannot get  is a definitive answer out of Dell ... can I install a wireless card inside in an available slot? I believe that I can use a USB flash drive in an external port, but I get different answers from different people at Dell whether a card can be installed inside the cabinet.

Some have told me that it can be done only in the Micro -Tower which is smaller than the Mini-Tower (MT) that I bought. Another Dell rep said that I would have to upgrade to the Opti 7040 in order to get a wireless card installed (additional $250.00). Neither of those answers make sense.

Other Dell reps have said there are no slots inside and one said yes,it can easily be installed. I am not only confused, but frustrated with  being transferred to incorrect phone numbers, people that do not understand questions and a generally inept CSR experience.

I have not even taken the computer out of the box yet as I am waiting for an IT guy to transfer data and do set up and tweaking. I want to  obtain either a card or a USB drive to set up the wireless so we can do everything at one time but I need to know if it can be installed in this machine or not.

I could easily install a card ahead of time IF I knew that buying it was not a waste of time and money but if  it will not accept it or run it, I would rather not open a brand new cabinet.

I do not understand why the wireless capabitlity is not part of the package. Both Lenovo and HP offer wireless as standard equipment at the similar configuration level.

Any answers will be appreciated.

Optiplex 3030 AIO BSOD at Win7 Boot after WDS Deployment

$

We have several Optiplex 3030 AIO Desktop computers on our campus and they all BSOD after WDS deployment, at the Windows splash screen.  They will not boot into Safe Mode.  Error:

STOP: 0x0000007E (0xFFFFFFFF80000003, 0xFFFFF8800536F02D, 0xFFFFF88003FD8EC8, 0xFFFFF88003FD8720)

We have 2 deployment servers with nearly identical settings, using the same .wim files, task sequence, etc.  Deployed machines from the other server don't have this issue.  We also don't have this issue with Windows 10 or any other model computer.

So far we have tried:

Fresh install of 2012r2 and 2016

Driver .cab files from 2014, 2015, and the most recent

Dell's pre-boot system assessment

We've just about run out of ideas.  Any help would be appreciated.
