(Redirected) Alienware x51 from win 7 to win 10
My x51 r2 has worked fine in win 10 for months but now restarts into bootloops. I have to unplug and wait an hour to get back to windows. I would like to do a clean install of windows 10 with all my alienware software and drivers including my nvidia 670 card.
Touch screen not working after windows 10 update.
This has happened a few times. After Win 10 updates the touch screen won't recognize touch, works fine otherwise. I see a error message in Device Manager - Universal Serial Bus - Unknown USB Device - Device Descriptor Request Failed. The error message description is "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
I have uninstalled the driver then reinstalled
Rebooted the PC
Restored my device to a good last know state
Updated drivers from the Dell support site
BTW, the last time this happened I literally reinstalled my operating system but that only worked temporarily. The Dell diagnostics software caused my system to go into a PC Diagnostics and Repair loop.
I am hoping there is a patch that resolves this issue as its "chronic"
Thanks
MD5 checksum mismatch on R190918.exe download
I have an Inspiron 530 desktop and I want to upgrade the TEAC CA-200 Enhanced 19-1 Card Reader firmware. The firmware can be downloaded from the http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/4/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=R190918 page. That page says that the MD5 checksum for the downloaded R190918.exe file should be 269b456da804f8eee262703e9919b4f9.
However, the MD5 checksum that I calculate on the downloaded R190918.exe file is 23a750d9c86afe4e3b99f9876a7cd402.
Is there some way to get Dell Support to look into this checksum mismatch?
Please Identify Dell Mobo: DS/N CN 0WF816-69861-6CG-0B0A C/O CN
I have this old board I'd like to know what ram to use etc. Like to identify it so's I can get the specsheet and know all about it before I realise it is an old piece of junk and throw it away...
Can anyone help? I got a google hit on the first part of the number but it wasn't the right board at all.
There seems to be no other numbers. This one is from below a barcode on the edge of the board.

I accidentally put this post in the laptop forum. sorry about that. I'm sure it's not a laptop board.
Inspiron 3650 Desktop - questions about adding a Firewire card
I purchased a SIIG PCIe Firewire card (Model NN-E20012-S2) to install in my Inspiron 3650. The card needs to be connected to the computer's power somehow. The "Y" split power cable that SIIG supplies is a 4 pin power connector (4 pins on all 3 of the plugs).
It doesn't look like the Inspiron 3650 has any 4 pin power sockets that I can find.
I assume I need a different type of power cable (or adapter) to make the connection to the PC power.
I saw mention of using a Citynet CC-S24P-A SATA II to Molex 4 pin adapter on another forum while searching the internet for help. Looking at a picture of it, I'm not sure where I'd need to connect the end that has the brass contacts on it.
Can anyone let me know what cable or adapter I need? I'll also need some help on where the connection to the PC power needs to be made. Basically, what needs to connect to what?
Thanks!

How to fix recovery partition error without disk?
I've been fighting some sort of issue with booting. Dell 8700XPS, Win7 Pro, 32GB SSD cache.
On power up (from system powered off) it does not recognize the hard drive (accelerated to use SSD). It only lists the SSD, and fails to boot, saying improper media. If I power cycle and hit cntl I before that error, it does not list the HD (only SSD), then hit escape, then it recognizes the HD and SSD as the boot process continues. Then it seems ok. Once up and running, a reboot sees both the HD and SSD during boot. So the problem only appears after a power down, not a reboot.
I went to the Dell Backup and Recovery program, and it reports the Factory Recovery Partition is missing or corrupt. I thought I had made a recovery CD (win7 pro), but of course can't find it. The only disks shipped with the unit were Win8.1, which I never upgraded to due to software I use doesn't run on Win8.
I'm hoping the Recovery Partition problem is why it's not seeing the HD on power-up, but may be just wishful thinking.
Thoughts on how to get that recovery partition problem resolved? I assume it is on the SSD.
Thanks in advance.

Installing SSD as boot drive in XPS 8900
I just read this entire thread and now I'm really confused. My problem is that I installed a new 850 M2 in the SSD slot in my relatively new 8900. The drive now shows up in the Windows "device manager" display and also in the Magician software but not in the list in "My computer". I have run the Samsung Data Migration twice (the 1st one failed for some disk reason, and the 2nd reported as successful), but the display shows no data on the disk (although it shows the total of the 2 passes as having been 'written'. Is some kind of formatting or other setting required to make the disk show up as available in Windows? I have Acronis, so I could use it to clone the original HDD if the Migration hasn't actually written on the SSD, but I don't exactly know where I am with the disconnect within Windows. Help!!
Information box
Why and how do I remove an "Information box" showing Model, Ser. No, and Manufactured date, keep popping up and staying in front?

Inspiron 3650: Added SSD, but can't get to boot without F12 Boot manager
I added a Samsung Evo 850 Pro (512GB) SSD to my Inspiron 3650 and I can boot to it fine when using F12 at startup and manually selecting it from the list. The original 1GB drive is something I want to only use as storage, but it seems the system is still seeking it ... when I start normally I get a boot device not found error. This is driving me a bit crazy ...
Any help or guidance would be appreciated!

Inspiron 3847 constantly reboots
Hi
Hoping someone can help. We have a Dell Inspiron 3847 and lately it has been constantly rebooting itself with no warnings. Basically any time we are away from the PC for any length of time when we come back it has rebooted and we are back at the log on stage which is becoming extremely frustrating.
Thanks

Dell 8910 Upgrades with photos for those looking to get this machine
I wanted a desktop to replace an aging dell dimension e520. It is not going to be used for a gaming machine. It will be used for audio recording in an audio production workspace.
I picked up the base model XPS 8910 Cyber Monday. it has the I5-6400 CPU.
Installed:
-32GB Crucial RAM
-512GB Samsung 950 PRO with a PCIE Express card
-Samsung 500GB M.2 Sata III - placed on the built in M2 slot on the Mobo
-Asus Geforce GT 1060 6GB Turbo Edition VR Ready Dual HDMI 2.0 DP 1.4 Auto-Extreme Graphics Card
EVGA Supernova 850Watt P2 level 80+ Platinum PSU
I removed the HDD caddies that were in the chassis as I did not need them. the 1 TB of SSDs I am putting in are sufficient for me for what this desktop will be used for.
When I got the machine, I immediately removed the parts I was replacing. installed the SSD and booted with a thumb drive with the microsoft windows tool to load a fresh copy of windows onto the 950.
All that went with no issues. After the load of windows I proceeded to install the drivers and updates as needed.
The machine has been up and running 24/7 since last wednesday. no issues and the boot up and operation has been excellent. No overheating issues, no BSODs, no freezes, or any other nonsense.
