I'm looking at my neighbours PC as they've switched it on today, only to find out that it will no boot. I have switched it off and turned it back on, this led to me getting an error due to failing to past TMR2 Checkpoint as well as a prompt to contact Dell Technical Support.

Someone suggested that I should try removing or replacing the CMOS battery, which I have, this seems to have got me past the error screen, however, the system now hangs on the Dell Screen with vertical bars running down the monitor.

Any suggestions? 

So far,  I have;

1. Replaced the CMOS battery

2. Checked that the components are all seated correctly.

There may not be a simple solution for my problem but I'll submit this anyway.  Perhaps someone else has attempted this -----------

I have a new XPS 8900 and installed a Hot-Swap Cage in the upper optical-drive slot.  This cage is an IStarUSA BPN-DE110SS.  Installation was straightforward and the device operates fine.  I've exercised it for almost an hour by inserting different HDDs,  It works very well.    

BUT !!! --- after reattaching the front bezel I encountered a clearance problem.  There is not enough vertical clearance to open the cage-door.  The bottom of the cage-door is obstructed by the lower section of the bezel... the portion containing the flip-down "door". 

I may eventually decide to trim that section of the bezel --- removing the "door" and some of the lower plastic.  Before I do that --- and make a permanent (unsightly) modification, can anyone offer alternatives?  

BTW - I intend to use this cage for multiple-generation BACKUP purposes... rotating numerous HDDs.  This seems like good approach since the cage will operate with SATA-speeds.  I have previously placed these HDDs into external docking stations using slower USB-speeds.  

So... any thoughts ????

Hi.

My Dell Insprion 7559 has not been able to boot to Windows due to an incomplete restore by Windows 10. I have checked my hard drives and I can see there is a restore image, but Windows cannot access it. I already downloaded the Dell Recovery ISO, and this is what I am using to access any option of restoring my laptop. Is there a way I could access the Dell Recovery Image?

I have a dell vostro 200 pc.I got a problem with it turn on and off automatically and have a yellow light on power button.I disconnect all cables and reconnect but the problem is not fixed.please tell me a solution.Thanks in advance!

Hi, I have a Dell XPS 8700 with Windows 10, and was trying to upgrade my PC from a stock NVIDIA GT 720 that it came with to a PNY GeForce GTX 960 2GB, but because of the card size, the SATA cords for the DVD drive and hard drive aren't long enough to go around the card and plug into the motherboard. Do I need to buy new SATA cables and where can I buy them (in store preferred)?

So I'm planning to put the i7-4790 (non k) from my xps 8700 onto a z97 chipset mini-itx mobo. I learned that the 8700 with the 4770 used z87 chipset motherboards. Does the 8700 with the haswell refresh CPUs use the same mobo or a z97 one? 

I am asking this because I am wondering if I will have to reinstall windows if I change chipsets but use the same CPU. Are z87 and z97 windows installations comaptable?

Hi. 9200 won't boot. Has light 3 and 4 lit up, but I have reseated both memory and Graphics cards. No beeping. Power supply seems okay. Just whirrs, (and not very loudly - when it goes into boot usually, it cranks up noisily - but doesn't seem to get to this stage). Tested hard drive on another PC and is okay. Suggestions?

Hello,

My OptiPlex 780 won't turn on/boot. When the power button is pressed nothing happens but if the power button is held the number 3 stays lit until I let go of the button.

When it it plugged in and the switch turned on and before any buttons are pressed the numbers 1 and 3 flash on very quickly before going out and this repeats. There is also a yellow light which stays lit on the motherboard.

There is no beeping whatsoever and no video output at all. The only things plugged into the computer are the power cable and sometimes the VGA cable to see if there is any video output.

If the power button on the back is pressed, it lights up green and the fans start whirring but there is still no video output. During this, the front power light is a steady amber and the flashing 1 and 3 go out.

I have tried unplugging and plugging in the cables inside, I've removed the RAM and replaced it to no avail and I've reseated the CPU. I've also tried using a different power cable.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Hypothetically, what if you were to accidentally remove all of your "Windows Boot Manager" entries in the UEFI BIOS.  Let's say the partitions and filesystems are still fine, and you can boot to recovery media, but the startup repair fails.  And bcdedit can't find the BCD store in \EFI\Microsoft\Boot, even though it exists.

Hypothetically, of course. :-/

What is the difference between  Precision T7400 and a Precision T7400 MT? 

Mine is the latter and I want to check if the PCI e slots are version 2.0. My user guide doesn't have the MT.

Even when cool - having just been started up, and when conducting non-intensive CPU tasks, the fan on my XPS 8700 will race for about 12 seconds every 60 seconds or so. The noise is annoying apart from anything else. Does anyone know what might be causing this and how the problem can be solved? I am running Windows 10 Home Anniversary edition. Many Thanks.

Hello community,

We have a XPS One 2710 and we want to replace the default HDD with a SSD but we can't find compatibility information, can we replace the SATA disk with Samsung Evo 850 SSD, for example?, is it normal SATA interface, not mSATA right?

please a couple years ago my old dell studio d540 stopped working during a power outage and i took a look at it it was the psu unit it self after replacing it with a new one i was like lol that it booted but nothing mouse and keyboard was working a after a reboot the computer quickly showed ami bios check and i saw Keyboard failure yes i know its 2016 but im upgrading soon im gonna say no one is going to respond but any advice would help me and i cant get in bios there is also and cmos checksum error and says something about nvram like i said before any help will be great.

Hello,

I have had may Dell Dimension E520 for a number of years with no issues.  However, today I go to turn on the computer and nothing happens.  No power, fan, anything.  I thought it was the power supply, so I went and bought a new cord, and have the same issue.

There is a light at the power supply that is blinking yellow.  Any help would be appreciated.

Please a while ago there was a powerage outage while my machie was on no sigh of life i took a old psu and hooked it up booted up but i noticed i got a error saying keyboard failure and i cant use it this only has usb no ps2 i was thinking a ps2 converter type thingy or like usb extender for one of the pcie slots to give it a shot i know the computer is like 7 years old no one will look at this post but it is worth a shot and it has ami bios i looked up error messages for it not beep code the error im getting was not there i saw a keyboard error but i don't know really any help will be great than you

My XPS 8700 has an entry in the device manager flagged.  It says drivers for it are not installed.

It is in the Other devices category.  It says "SM Bus Controller."  Windoze can't find a driver.  What driver do I need and where can I get it?

As of Oct 2016, Costco is selling a XPS 8900, i7, 16GB, GeForce GTX745 PC.  Does the motherboard in this PC have a SATA 3 connector that I can use for a SATA SSD that I already have?
