Studio XPS9100 windows 10 upgrade

The free windows 10 upgrade end is in sight and I haven't upgraded my pc yet.  I would like to upgrade prior to the end of the free upgrade but am afraid to as Dell hasn't upgraded this pc to do so.

Anybody out there that has this pc and has upgraded or tried to please let me know what happened.

Should I try?  You can rollback for 30 days but will anything be damaged/lost in the process?

I use this PC for my photography business so I am very concerned and worried to even try.

I have added 1 tb hd for programs, two 2 tb hds for data (photos).  These are just the internal hds.

24gbs ram and it is w7 pro

ANY feedback is appreciated!

No power supply line for my PCI card in my Inspiron 660. Now what?

I have a Dell Inspiron 660 desktop.

The good news is that I have a pretty high quality HD video camera.  The bad news is that it requires a firewire port to connect with my computer.  No problem I thought. I got a PCI card to provide one.  It requires that a power cable be plugged into it for it to work.  I popped open the case expecting to find the usual compliment of unused power lines available for just such a purpose.  There are in fact none at all.

What the heck?

How to disable: "Alert! front i/o cable failure" prompt during boot?

Hi.

I just installed a seperate soundcard to the PCI-E slot and switched the front panel audio cable from the motherboard to this new soundcard, so I could also use the front panel's headphone connector.

Now the front panel headphone connector and both of the USB ports work fine, but now during each boot, I get the "Alert! Front I/O cable failure" prompt and I need to press F1 -button to continue the startup process. Other options are diagnostics and BIOS settings.

I made a small test and reconnected the audio cable back the motherboard and the boot was ok(no prompt), so I'm pretty convinced that in this case the prompt is useless.

How could I disable this alert? I could not find anything useful in BIOS settings. I used the BIOS settings to disable the integrated soundcard, but it didn't silence the prompt. Obviously the main goal is to be able to open the operating system without use of a keyboard.

System: Dell Optiplex 390 SFF
OS: WIN7 64bit
BIOS: A11 (newest)
Soundcard: Asus Xonar DGX

Thank you all for any tips.

can I fit a USB3.0 or eSATA card in a Dell Precision 690,

I have a Dell Precision 690 with 32gb ram, 1.5gb Nvidia Quadro FX 4800, 4 X 4TB (12tb)  Western Digital Black Caviar drives. I wanted to know if there is a way to get the system to accept a USB3.0 or eSATA card in a Dell Precision 690 or whether I should just start again from scratch the reason I don't want to is that it is an incredibly fast system with 2 x 2.66ghz quad-core Xeon processors and if I could run either USB 3 or eSata on it I;d be more than happy.

Is there a way or is it a lost cause?

Thanks in advance.

XPS 8700 - trying to run 5 monitors with Geforce

I currently have an XPS 8700 running a Geforce GT 640 card with three monitors, and want to add two more.  I attempted to purchase another 640 card and SLI the two together, but they won't fit into the case together.  My next step was to purchase a GT 620 card an attempt to run the two of those together(but not SLI), but for some reason my computer isn't recognizing the new card.  I'm fairly certain the 620 has power and I installed the drivers for it, but it's still not recognizing it and the monitors won't work when plugged in.  Is there some setting that I have to change to get the system to run two cards at once?

If it isn't possible to run 5 monitors in this fashion, what would be the best way to do so?

Thank you for any help.

No boot device available

My friend gave me a dell Inspiron 531s today (runs Windows xp) and when I turned it on, the computer showed the dell boot up screen and then quickly went to a text that said

"No boot device available

Sata 0: None

Sata 1: Installed

Sata 2: None

Sata 3: None"

I looked at the motherboard and saw 4 Sata inputs on the motherboard and one on the power supply.

Hopefully there's an answer.

Dell Inspiron 24 5348 voltage

Hi, I have a Inspiron 24 5348 that I purchased in Australia. It has been working fine in England (we share similar power 220-240V), but I am about to move to Japan (they use 100V).

The manual that I found on the dell website (linked below) lists the Input voltage as 100 VAC–240 VAC and the Input frequency as 50 Hz–60 Hz.

Does this simply mean that models sold in different countries will accept different voltage? Or does this mean that, like a laptop, this all-in-one desktop can be used on both voltages and thus will be fine in Japan?

Is there any way to test this without harming my computer?

Online manual (not sure if US model only or universal):

I have a KB216 which was included with my Dell XPS8900.  I notice 9 of the keys have two functions imprinted, one in gray and one in bright blue.  For instance one key has "insert" in gray and "print screen" in blue.  Another has "PageUp" in gray and "Pause Break" in blue.  I have not been able to determine the procedure for switching between the two functions.  Please give me this information as I really would like to use some of the secondary functions.  No instructions came with the computer.  Thank you.

T1650: UEFI + Secure Boot enabled: Cannot boot anymore

Hi,

yesterday I wanted to install Windows 10 Enterprise on my T1650 test machine. Before doing so, I successfully updated the BIOS to A20. After updating BIOS, I've enabled UEFI + Secure Mode, saved the changes and... couldn't start the PC anymore. When turning the PC on, monitor immediately goes into power saving mode, there is obviously no signal coming from the PC. Removed the Nvidia Quadro NVS 300 and plugged the monitor into board's VGA slot, no success. Tried to clear the CMOS (battery out, jumpers), nothing helped.

Any ideas?

Does anyone know if the new GTX 1080 card will have any issues with a Dell XPS 8900 Desktop?  Since the power requirements are lower the PSU should support it but I would like to verify before making an additional purchase.

Yep, it's old, but it's good!   [:D]

How do you take the side cover off that surrounds the optical drive.

In the service manual I found online, there are no instructions for this.

Thanks.

The 1TB hard drive with my system died and I purchased a 3TB replacement but can't get the system to recognize more than 2 TB.  Does the 2305 support UEFI?  Is there some way to overcome the >2TB problem in this computer so I don't have a wasted TB of storage?  I can't even get it to partion into 2 TB and 1TB.

Dell Precision T5600 CPU compatibility: dell current power supply does not support...

Hello

I just swapped out a e5-2603 CPU and installed a e5-1620 CPU in a Precision T5600.  The PC will not boot, and prior to a forced entering to bios setup, it gives a warning/error

"Your dell current power supply does not support the recent configuration changes made .."

My PSU is a 635W - this should be sufficient, yes??

So is the 1620 not compatible with this model?

thanks for any help, david
