My new Dell computer desk top xps 8900 900

Hi Everyone, I bought a new computer the Dell xps 8900 and I received it and set it up March 3. I had some issues with it and had a tech come over and work on it. I started having problems with the mouse not waking up. I would have to un plug it from the back of the tower. Dell replaced that computer and I just got another one lase Wednesday and set it up on Friday. I did add a printer and Acrobat Reader and I noticed that the computer came not to go in to sleep mode. I changed the settings and it seemed to be working and now is doing the same thing. It went to sleep and I tried restarting it. That did not work and I used the arrow keys to shut it down and then restarted it and the mouse worked. Is this a windows problem or a computer problem? does any one know or have this problem it's windows 10.

We have 3 Dell Precision Workstation T3610 in our office. All the 3 PC's taking 5 minuted to boot if there is a network cable is connected, we have formatted with new OS, but no luck, upgrade all driver and bios and the HDD rate is 5.9.

Is there any issue of the Mother of board/NW card of this model? All other PC in our  office is working fine

Failed Hard Drive

We have a Dell XPS One 2720 that was setup at our Rescue Squad and is out of warranty. No problem, I can replace the hard drive but non on created system discs or backups and my look at Dell.com for drivers will not allow me to download the drives ahead of time so I can install them when I install the new drive and install Windows 10. It appears I may be able to order the system discs from Dell that I think will have Windows 8 Pro and hopefully the drivers/programs that would bring the system back to where it was when new.

Is there a way to download just the drivers that won't try to auto install or expand when downloaded? I want them on a USB memory stick ready to install after loading Windows 10. Suggestions welcomed.

Thanks,

Steve

16th May 2016.

Dear Dell Forum Members & Support,

We have an existing and very reliable Dell Precision 490 with a Single Intel Xeon 5060 (Dual Core, 3.2GHz,1066MHz) system.

The system is currently running Bios Version A08 (04/25/08)

Can it be upgraded to Two (2) Intel Xeon Quad Core Processors, and if so, can a list of the compatiable processors be supplied ?

e.g. Xeon X5460 (Quad-Core, 3.16 GHz, 1333MHz) etc.
Thank you for your time & patience.

With kindest regards.

OPTIPLEX 960 Upgrade journey

Hi,

I got myself a new PC for work and I did not want to spend much, so I got one from the previous decade!

But now I realized that the speed is frustrating me. I have upgraded the ram and the hard and the graphic card withe magic of second hand shopping. But the processor is still a slug.

I tried figuring out what processor is compatible to Optiplex 960 motherboard, but I did not really understand how to find out.

Can somebody please let me know what is the maximum possible processor that I can hook up to this old fella?

The current speed is 3.0Ghz, and I think its not dual or quad.

Thank you

Dell Precision T7500 S14 post error & can't get into BIOS

Hi,

Powered down a working T7500 workstation and moved offices.  Powered it back on, and I get the S14 POST error - Green power light and lights 1, 2, and 3 on, light 4 off.

If I hit F12 at boot I can get to the Boot Device Menu, where I can choose my RAID 1 "drive", 2 other internal drives (there are 4 HDD in total), CDROM, Diagnostics, or System Setup.  Whichever one of these I chose the system hangs.  Particularly worrying that diagnostics and system setup hang.

If I don't press F12 and let the machine boot normally it hangs after a successful MPT boot message.

In both cases (F12 option or letting it run) the keyboard is then unresponsive and the system sits and does nothing.

I've reset CMOS (bought a new battery too) and unplugged all the easy to reach components.

I'd be very grateful if anyone can tell me what I can possibly do next!

Derek

Dell Optiplex Gx620 Small Form

Ok so there was a Dell optiplex gx620 small Form sitting around my house when a laptop I was using *** out. I put a Geforce 750 ti in it and added two 2 gb memory ram with the two 512mb that were already in it. So 5gb in it but has like 3.5gb limitation with windows xp 32bit. Also added a wifi adapter chip.

OK now that I'm done telling what I've added here we go. With the memory upgrade and the graphic upgrade I thought it would run super smoothly but nope, it's better but still too slow for things I'm trying to do. So I looked around and I'm thinking maybe even though I upgraded that stuff the computers processor  (cpu) is still not good enough and is standard old and sluggish and needs upgraded to bring this computer "to life"

SOOOOOO Straight and forward to the point, I need someone to tell me what the maximum best CPUpgrade for my Dell Optiplex Gx620 small form is. (Please no "this isn't worth it" comments) thanks.

Should fans rev when power is applied and computer is in off state?

I have a new XPS 8900. I use a power strip and disconnect power from the machine.at times. Even though shut down properly on previous use, and bios is set to go to off state after power interruption, the fans will rev for a couple of seconds when power is applied, then the computer goes to the quiet off state. An individual at Dell tech support told me this is normal, but this individual was wrong on some other stuff discussed. I've never had a computer do fan activation on just being plugged in when it should be in the off state. Is this a correct behavior for the XPS 8900?

MAC THUNDERBOLT DISPLAY TO OPTIPLEX 790

I've managed to stump the IT folks at my work and am hoping someone here has a solution. I currently work off of a OptiPlex 790 with a Dell display connected through the HDMI port. I'm trying to connect my 27'' Thunderbolt Display (MAC) as a second monitor. I first tried a DisplayPort to Thunderbolt chord (with a male DP end and a male thunderbolt end which connects to the Mac display), but my Dell isn't recognizing that another display is even connected. Has anyone ever tried to do this?--any solutions? Sorry to post a mac/dell hybrid question. Thanks for your help!

When Attempting to get drivers for several optiplex desktops I keep getting the following error.

In the details of the message it always reports:

See the setup log file located at 'C:\Users\owner\AppData\Local\Temp\VSD129D.tmp\install.log' for more information.

In the log file

The system is configured as follows

Optiplex 9020

Windows 7 Pro 64 - Clean installation from dell win 7 disk, no antivirus installed, all windows updates run

I see this particular problem across many systems, sometimes it works and works well.  Most of the time it fails.  This has been the cleanest configuration for running this application and it failing.

(Redirected) Alienware Area 51 R2 - video card died - can I get a replacement?

Hi,

Curious if I have any recourse here. Last weekend I woke up to my PC beeping at a black screen. 6 beeps in a row during post, then nothing. Beep codes indicate a video failure. I pull out the Nvidia GTX980 card and replaced it with another I had. PC boots fine and video works. I try reseating the Nvidia card in different slots, checking cables and alignment, still 6 beeps and no video.

I bought the system back in March 2015 and the warranty expired last month on 4/1. Of course :(

Am i out of luck? This is an expensive problem to have happen after only 1 year.

Inspiron 546 won't boot -amber blinking power button

Have Dell Inspirion (service tag 8KF9DK1) running Vista (yea, it's over 5 years old) Had the Dell off to side of my desk for 1 year, not in use, after got an HP laptop. Had 19" monitor I used for Dell and then set up with the HP  laptop for better screen/larger screen. Monitor had worked fine for years on desktop, and the last year great with the laptop. Last week I got a new Dell 23" wide screen and set that up with the laptop yesterday-works great. Today wanted to pull some old data off Dell desktop onto a 32g USB drive and the transfer to laptop. When first tried to boot Dell, got power, but 5 beeps and blinking amber front power light  when it tried to boot. Green light was on, steady, on the back of computer. Powered down, tried trick of removing all memory sticks, restarting (all fans worked at this point), turning off, and reinserting memory sticks. Then reattached all cables for peripherals. Know the monitor is fine....before I connected it to Dell, it came up.When turned it back on, amber blinking light on front of Dell (power button) but no power. Checked interior connections and realized I'd knocked power cable off hard drive. Reconnected it, and now have power but still the constant blinking  amber power button.  Checked all connections. ARRGGHHHH.... All I really need is to pull the hard drive and get the data off it onto my USB stick, Is there an adapter I can use to connect this old hard drive into my laptop, even though it's still running VISTA?  My laptop is running 8.1.

Any ideas? After spending two hours on this mess, I'm rather perplexed!

Problem with computer since buying new Dell monitor - help please

My 3 year old Inspiron desktop & monitor  worked flawlessly since purchasing them  - until the other day that is . We moved into a new house on 3/31 and didn't get hooked up to the internet until a few days ago as were had to evacuate due to the 2 big quakes here in Kumamoto , Japan .  My S2204L fell off the desk when the first quake struck ( desktop did not move and I promptly  took it off the desk and put it in a safe place until our return ) , so I ordered a new one from Dell Japan as soon as we got back . Connected it the other day and went to Youtube to listen to some music . I came downstairs for about 20 minutes and suddenly the music stopped .  I went upstairs and discovered a black screen / no audio . Moved the mouse and the Youtube page is there and the music begins playing where it left off . I tried listening to a talk radio podcast and the same thing happened . It's as if the monitor is going into sleep / power save mode - which it shouldn't when I am in the process of watching or listening to something - and for some strange reason the audio/video stops until moving mouse . Wild . I am still using Windows 7 and Windows Home Premium 64 bit and IE . Anybody have a clue as to how I can solve this problem ? My wife called Dell Support Japan ( handled by Chinese who can speak Japanese ) but they weren't much help . I don't think the guy fully understood what I was experiencing . I hope you all do lol ! I went a month and a half without internet due to quake & evacuation and now still can't use the PC without trouble .
