Dell Dimension E521 Processor Upgrade

$

My E521 came with the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4400+ processor and I read on some other threads that the AMD Athlot 64 X2 Dual-Core 6000+ should work, as long as I got the 89w version.  I purchased the following:

AMD ADA6000IAA6CZ Athlon X2 6000+ AM2 3.0GHZ 2MB 90NM 89W 2000MHZ TRAY

I am running the latest BIOS (1.1.11), running Windows 10.  However, my system doesn't recognize the new processor.  It boots, but still shows the 4400+ processor when I view the properties under "This PC" and also in device manager.  I even try scanning for new hardware in device manager, but the system doesn't see it. Another strange thing is that the 4400+ processor shows up twice in device manager under processors.

What can I do to get it to recognize the new processor?

Optiplex 3020 SFF Processor upgrade?

I currently have a optiplex 3020 SFF which has an intel i3-4160T processor in it. I would like to upgrade the processor to and i5 or i7, but cannot find any chart which shows what other processors work in this machine and on the DIH81R motherboard. I would assume that I could at least upgrade to the i5-4590T as Dell advertises that as an option in other 3020's. But interested if there are other options.

plz help!

XPS 8900, adding a second mSATA SSD?

Hi,

I have an older XPS 8500 with a 32GB SSD installed and would like to take that out and add it to my new XPS 8900, that already has a 32GB SSD installed.

Can I do this (have 2 SSD drives?) First, is this worth  doing? What would be the advantage I could gain? And if doable and advantageous, what do I need to do to install the 2nd SSD? And is there anything I need to be careful of or recommended setup to make the most out of the 2nd (additional) SSD drive?

Thanks!

Morgan

Dell Dimension 3000 crashes

$

Okay, I have an old dinosaur of a computer in a Dell Dimension 3000 that I got back in 2005.  Starting several months ago, I would get little blurry regions on my monitor or a barely visible black line.  The blurry areas would kind of shimmer.  If I wiggled my VGA cable a bit, these areas would either move to a new area or disappear altogether.  This went on for some time and I wasn't overly concerned.

About a month ago I was watching a video when all of a sudden my PC crashed and I was staring at a frozen image of garbled colors.  I held in the power button to restart and was fine for two days until when I tried to boot up my PC,  my monitor said that there was no signal coming from the computer before it went into standby mode (the light on the monitor turned yellow).

I tried all sorts of things to get it running again by searching around online.  I removed my RAM sticks to clean them before reinserting them. removed dust, etc.  A few of the capacitors were bent on the motherboard and I seemed to be able to fix things by bending them back in place.  None of them had blown their caps, but some of their silver tops had a blueish tint to them.

I got by the crashes and no signal detected through doing this for a couple weeks.  A couple days would pass without issues but then they would reappear.  It seemed to get a little bit harder over time.  Yesterday was an issue.  All my usual tricks weren't working for a while.  I got it running again but after I had noticed a few things... the green grounded light on my power strip was lit up and I thought to myself... I don't overly recall seeing it on lately.  Also, the fan on my power supply was no longer running.

Where I stand right now is that I'm using a personal desk fan of mine to blow cold air on the power supply and see if that fixes it.  I didn't crash again yesterday after I began using the fan but I did this morning just right as Skype had loaded up.

I should also note that about a month before the crashing started I had removed an excessive amount of dust from the inside of my PC.  I had neglected cleaning it for a while, but what triggered me to do it was by how loud my PC was and I detected a burnt smell.  No parts of the motherboard look blackened or cooked.  Unfortunately I had forgotten to clean out the power supply until yesterday, so I don't even know how long it has been out.

Should I invest in a new PSU or is my PC pretty much too far gone?  I fear I might have done damage by not removing the dust sooner or by my ungrounded power strip... or a combination of the two.  I never got any motherboard beeps, blue screens, or random reboots, however.

Sorry if my post seems like I'm rambling... I'm just really tired and frustrated and want to keep this old fossil going until I have the money to buy a new PC.

Inspriron7459 shutting down intermittently

This computer, less than a month old, switches off at irregular intervals sometimes once a day , and occasionally several times a day.  It can only be restarted after the power plug is removed and then reinserted into the socket at the back of the computer.

The last couple of times I noticed that the power button had changed from the normal while light illumination to a steady amber light.

Obviously there is some kind of fault.  Any ideas as to what it may be?

My GPU and CPU overheat way to easily. I am more worried about my gpu. I can fix the cpu. My guess at idle is 50 Celsius  when playing a simple game it hits 86 C. Mine overheats way too easily I can't even play a pixel game. I would just like some assistance on how to fix the drivers. BTW I have a Nvidia 760 Ti OEM. Thank you!

studio 540 won't power up

I lost power to my house and now the desktop studio 540 won't power up. No lights, no sounds, no fans.

I tried a different power cord and socket and still no power up.

I removed the cover and checked all cables and all were connected.

Then I noticed that when I pushed the power button the fans would spin some but not much.

I had to push the power button about 10-15 times until the unit finally powered up.

Now any time I lose power I have to take the cover off and manually spin the fans and push the power button until the desktop completely powers up.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi!

I'm having trouble starting my Dell XPS 8500.  The green PSU light turns on, but when I press the power on button, blinks in white and turns off. Then blinks in white again and turns off and continues doing that.

Also it sounds like something is trying to start inside.

I attached a simple video of its behavior.

Thanks a lot!

Will an I7 CPU fit in a 9020 with an I5 in it now? How much will that help performance?

Is there a special type or model number needed or are off the shelf CPUs all the same mounting?

No Display on Dell Studio D540 Desktop

I powered on my D540 and no video. I checked the power supply and it has a green light on. The front power button is yellow and not green. The hard drive spins up when power is applied. The USB keyboard and mouse do not seem to get power (no LEDs are lit).

I can't get into the BIOS or Windows boot menu as the screen does not work. I have an add in video card, so I removed it and plugged the monitor into the VGA on the mother board. No joy. The monitor continues to say there is no video signal from the computer in all options. Double checked the monitor and it works on another computer.

Any suggestions? TIA.
