Hello John,

XPS 8300 was shipped with 4 types of processors from Dell. Following are the list of processors shipped with the system

Intel® Core™i7-2600,3.4 Ghz, 4C, Sandy Bridge
Intel® Core™ i5-2500,3.3 Ghz, 4C, Sandy Bridge
Intel® Core™ i5-2400,3.1 Ghz, 4C, Sandy Bridge
Intel® Core™ i5-2300,2.8 Ghz, 4C, Sandy Bridge

Hence I would like to say that you already have the most upgraded processor installed in the computer.

A Core i7 2600k could also fit in the socket or the 3rd gen 3770 i think as they are the same socket but i might be wrong

I can confirm OC statement - if you look at his last posts at Dell forum he stated that 16 GB were ok. I stop at 8 (2x4gb), so I can add 8 more in 2 sticks later, this configuration is wOrking for me and I have different RAM model, I think mine is Corsair Vengeance.

New Dell XPS 8500 won't boot

I did read this thread, however I can't seem to make it fit with what I'm seeing.

http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/p/19476506/20231113.aspx

My wife actually went through the windows 8 setup, it sat for a while, and when I came home from work all I see is the Dell logo.  I can get into the bios using F2, however I'm not sure what to look for as far as issues or settings.

Boot Mode is UEFI, I haven't heard of this before.

1st Boot Device:  UEFI:Windows Boot Manager

That sound right?

I wanted to add

2nd boot device : USB Storage Device

3rd : Internal ODD devices

4th:  usb floppy drive

5th : onboard NIC

Hello Hidrolic,

XPS 8300 was shipped with the ATI Radeon HD 5870 which is 11 inches/28 centimeters in length and requires a 6 pin PCIe power connector. ASUS-GTX660-DC2O-2GD5 has a length of 10.2 inches and power supply requirement of 225W with a 6 pin PCIe power connector.

XPS 8300 has 460W power supply with a 6 pin PCIe power connector and hence the ASUS GTX 660 is compatible with it.

Dell XPS One 27 wireless keyboard & mouse - km713 / km632

I bought an XPS One 27 last month.  It shipped with wireless keyboard (KM713) and wireless mouse (KM632).  They work out of the box.  However, I don't see any USB receiver for these devices connected to any USB ports on the computer.  How are these devices communicating with the computer?  or am I blind that I don't see the receiver plugged in the computer?

Rosewill makes PCI SATA controllers (using VIA 6421 chipset)  that support RAID...is there a reason I couldn't use one of those on my Dell 400sc?

Hi haroldh123,

The USB receiver is connected towards the bottom left corner of the computer, please refer to the images below:

This model has no option to clear the log, just an option to disable reporting of errors that require you to acknowledge by pressing F1, and I would prefer to receive those notices.

I tried clearing the CMOS memory, I know it worked because the system tells you the CMOS was cleared and requires the date and time to be re-entered.

But-- I am still getting the 2000-0146 code when I run PSA assessment. Can you think of any other way to clear that out? Where is that being saved? It doesn't seem right that that should be happening.

gtx 600 series doesnt work with xps 8300 there is a problem where no display shows up, look it up no one with a xps 8300 is able to use any of the gtx 600 series cards. you can get any one of the 500 series which will work, or any ati card it doesnt have a problem with those.

Hi keyman7,

Please try a clean boot. Please ensure to run one program at a time during startup, which will help us in isolating which program is causing the problem.
